CASE 3:  Protruding front teeth
Sarah,   aged   12,   with   large   over   jet   (horizontal   gap   between   the   upper   and   lower   teeth).   There   is   also   a   chip   on   the upper   right   front   tooth   due   to   trauma   (knocking   it   on   the   edge   of   a   swimming   pool).   Damage   to   protruding   front teeth    is    a    common    problem    and    in    some    cases    children    require    treatment    early    to    reduce    the    risk    of    this happening.   Sarah   was   treated   first   with   functional   braces   and   then   with   fixed   metal   braces   to   close   the   gap between   the   front   teeth.   After   the   braces   were   removed   a   small   procedure   was   carried   out   to   remove   the   excess gum   between   the   upper   front   teeth.   A   bonded   retainer   was   placed   behind   the   front   teeth   to   help   keep   the   gap closed.

CASE 10:  Invisalign
Esme,   aged   27   wanted   to   improve   the   alignment   of   her   upper   and   lower   teeth.   The   treatment   was   carried   out   using Invisalign.   Esme   had   to   wear   an   elastic   between   the   upper   and   lower   aligners   to   improve   the   bite   on   the   right   side. She   also   had   to   have   some   interproximal   enamel   reduction   carried   out.   This   involves   removing   a   very   small   amount of   enamel   between   the   teeth   to   create   spaces   and   allow   the   teeth   to   move   past   each   other.   It   is   done   often   at almost   every   visit   and   does   not   need   local   anaesthetic.   The   procedure   causes   no   long   term   harm   to   the   teeth   as the amount of enamel taken is very small.
